The Investment and Development Agency of Latvia opens a new representative office in Ningbo, China

In June 2016, the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) opened an office in Ningbo, one of the biggest port cities in China. Similar to the other LIAA representative offices abroad, it will promote foreign direct investment and foster trade between Latvia and China. LIAA already has active presence in two other locations in China – Beijing and Shanghai.

The Chinese government chose Ningbo in Zhejiang Province as the geographic location for the partnership institutions with Central and Eastern European countries (CEEC). Latvia is one of the first CEEC to establish a presence in Ningbo. Only Hungary currently has staff in Ningbo.

LIAA representatives in China were actively involved in the 2nd China-CEEC Investment and Trade Expo, which took place from June 8-12 in Ningbo. Latvia’s stand included 15 companies representing food processing, cosmetics, design, education, transport and logistics and other industries. Among the participants from Latvia were entrepreneurs from Amberfish, Piejūra, Kolumbija, Brīvais Mustangs, Estma, Liberty, Sino Business Links, @YAYOI, KL Shipping L, Gartda, 55 mārītes, Munio Candela, Pinumu Pasaule, Sunny factory as well as the Transport and Telecommunication Institute and the Latvia-China International Center.

Simultaneously to the Expo, Ningbo also hosted the Second Ministerial Conference of China and Central and Eastern European Countries, attended by ministerial officials and other representatives from the repsective countries in order to promote economic cooperation and trade.

During the same week, Latvia also opened a new permanent pavillion at the Ningbo International Conference and Exhibition Center. Among the products showcased at the pavillion are juices from Cido, sweets from Rāmkalni, chocolate from NellaUlla, dairy products from FoodUnion, honey from Kiin Medus, canned fish from Gamma, Piejūra and Kolumbija as well as wine from Abavas Vīni.
