Latvia climbs five positions to rank 35th in ICT Development Index

Latvia this year ranked 35th in the ICT Development Index (IDI) of the United Nations specialized agency International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Compared to 2016, Latvia climbed five positions in the rating.

Among the Baltic states, Estonia took the highest position (17th), dropping three positions from last year, while Lithuania took the 41st positions, unchanged from 2016.

At the top of the list is Iceland, South Korea and Switzerland, as well as Denmark, the UK, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Norway, Luxembourg and Japan. At the bottom of the ranking were Chad (174th), the Central African Republic (175th) and Eritrea (176th).

This year's study found that the success of the Internet, analysis of large data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence will contribute to enormous innovation and will significantly transform business, governments and societies by improving the lives of people around the world.
