Latvian board game Ice Cool awarded the best children’s game in the world prize

Latvian board game Ice Cool was awarded the top prize of best children’s game in the world by the prestigious annual board game  prize Spiel des Jahres in the category for best children’s board game. The game is produced by Latvian company Brain Games. The game is for 2-4 players and is suited for ages six and up. At the center of the game are penguin figures that move around the board in a variety of ways, jumping, bouncing off the walls or simply sliding. The board game is 3-D. The game typically takes about 30 minutes to play. One of the game participants tries to catch the penguins, while others players are penguins and their task is to catch as many fish as possible.

Ice Cool board game has 15 international editions translated into more than 20 languages ​​and available in about 40 countries. "It was a great pleasure and pride for us when we learned that Ice Cool was nominated as one of the three best children's board games. Getting the main prize is truly an honor – it's the highest recognition for the quality and value of our game. Something that happens once in a lifetime." said one of the four creators of the game Egils Grasmanis. Brain Games was founded in 2004. The company has a store in Latvia and is a gaming distributor in the Baltic states.

The "Spiel des Jahres" award for table and card games is a Germany card and board game award. It was created in 1978 and is currently considered the world's most prestigious award in the gaming industry. The aim of the prize is to reward the design and quality of excellent games released in Germany, one of the largest and oldest gaming industries in the world. The Kinderspiel des Jahres nomination, which Ice Cool won, was introduced in 1989.
