LIAA’s activities expand to include tourism promotion

The functions of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) have been expanded to include tourism promotion. As of February 1, 2016, in addition to stimulating export and foreign direct investment to Latvia, LIAA has also been overseeing the reponsibilities and functions of the Latvian tourism policy, a task previously charged to the former Latvian Tourism Development Agency (LTDA).

The newly created LIAA Tourism Department is led by Inese Šīrava, the former Acting Director of LTDA and an experienced expert of the tourism industry. The new department consists of two divisions – the Tourism Marketing Division and the Tourism Product Development Division, and its main responsibilities are the development of tourism industry in Latvia and promoting Latvia abroad. LIAA currently has a network of 21 representative offices abroad including in Azerbaijan, Belarus, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Kazakhtan, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Sweden, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.
