The Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA), in cooperation with the Investment and Tourism Agency of Riga, has implemented a project which has resulted in a Riga gastronomy guide published on the influential Scandinavian market-orientated gastronomy blog https://andershusa.com/.

""The food is what drove us to visit Riga this time, and we were surprised by what we discovered. It seems that the culinary landscape of the city has changed in recent years, and many young chefs have grown in their mastery, implementing new and exciting concepts. Chefs dream boldly and set high goals by choosing high-quality raw materials. We saw that many restaurants put an emphasis on sustainability, thus promoting Riga's exciting and diverse culinary environment," said Anders Husa and Kaitlin Orr, authors of the Riga Gastronomy Guide  .

Food & travel bloggers and gastronomy industry experts Anders Husa and Kaitlin Orr visited 23 catering establishments in Riga for a week and gave their assessment. In order to present Riga's gastronomic offer, the guide includes public catering places such as the restaurants "MAX Cekot", "Tails", "Barents", "3Pavāri", etc. However, to make the picture complete, such places typical of Riga as "Kalve Cafe" were also evaluated. , "Space Falafel", "Kūkotava", "Street Pizza" in Ågenskalna, "Molbery" and "Mīkla Bakery". As a result, descriptions of 21 objects were created, although initially it was planned to highlight 10 bright places.

The popularity of gastronomy tourism is growing rapidly worldwide, and this year, the LIAA Tourism Department has been working hard to promote this sector. Gourmets worldwide are very demanding, and competition in this sector is relatively high, so it is essential to continuously develop the quality of restaurants and promote interest in them internationally. This is how we can attract more foreign visitors.

"This year, in the market research commissioned by LIAA, we see that Scandinavians positively evaluate the offer of restaurants and bars in Latvia. With the guide, we want to tell potential travelers in more detail about Riga's gastronomic offer. Anders Husa and Kaitlin Orr are highly regarded expert among professionals, who have given their perspective on Riga's offer in the culinary field. We have something to be proud of in this regard, therefore we plan to create similar guides for the offer of Latvia's regions as well," emphasizes Inese Šīrava, director of the LIAA Tourism Department .

The new guide will serve as a source of inspiration for Riga's guests in the future. The importance of this initiative is also emphasized by Ieva Lasmane, head of the Tourism Department of the Riga Investment and Tourism Agency: "The Riga restaurant guide created by recognized Scandinavian experts is a very important marketing tool for the city, which will help guests better navigate the wide range of Riga's gastronomy. We are glad that the guide includes both high-class restaurants and popular pizzerias and cafes, which managed to surprise experienced restaurant experts with the quality and creativity of the food".
