CEMEX is a global manufacturer of building materials, including cement, ready-mix concrete, aggregates, and other related products and services. With annual sales of over $14 billion, the company has over 46,000 employees in more than 50 countries.
CEMEX started operating in Latvia after acquiring the international supplier of building materials RMC Group in 2005, thereby also becoming the owner of the cement plant in Brocēni. CEMEX has made a significant investment of more than 275 million Euros in its production facility, completed in 2009 with a capacity of 1.6 million tons of cement annually. It is one of the most technologically modern cement plants in Europe, with innovations such as a dry kiln, which significantly reduces thermal energy needs. The plant in Latvia exports approximately 80% of its production, mainly to Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Belarus and Russia.
“The increased capacity provided us with the export platform that was an integral part of our investment strategy in Latvia. We had been already working hard to open a new commercial presence in different countries in the region, and with the new production of quality products, we started growing fast abroad,” notes Mr. Enrique Garcia, Country Director of CEMEX Latvia.
