LIAA signed a cooperation agreement with the local government of Rēzekne for attracting investments

Marinetek opens a new factory in Latvia

Marinetek Heavy Duty Pontoons and Breakwaters are now being manufactured in Latvia in the most recent Marinetek production unit, which officially opened in Olaine on 19th October, 25 km from Riga city centre. The production programme includes all of the most popular larger sized concrete floats in addition to the timber systems, fingers and other components which have been produced in Latvia since 2005. In terms of logistics, Latvia’s location is perfectly positioned to serve the expanding markets in both Northern and Eastern Europe. Click here to read more.

Latvia climbs 10 positions in the "Doing Business 2012" index

Latvia has made progress in the Doing Business ranking - Latvia’s assessment has improved by ten positions, and Latvia aims to rank among the top 20 countries. One of the tasks to fulfil in order to improve the rating – bringing order to the procedure of receiving the construction permits, said the experts on Friday, October 21, at the press conference devoted to the World Bank’s report Doing Business 2012 and Latvia’s results. Norwegian Statoil Fuel&Retail (SFR) to open service center in Riga

Statoil Fuel&Retail has chosen Riga for developing a financial shared services center to service the entire Statoil Fuel&Retail Group. The financial services center is going to take care of the group's accounting transactions, financial control and human resources services. Brabantia Latvia goes full capacity

Dutch company Brabantia, Europe’s leading supplier of innovative household products, opened a production plant in Latvia in 2008. After a number of Eastern European countries were evaluated starting from December 2005, Brabantia first contacted the LIAA Representative Office in the Netherlands. IBM and Latvian government to sign agreement to start joint work on the development of a research centre in Latvia

On Monday, September 12, a meeting of the representatives of IBM and the Latvian side was held in the Cabinet of Ministers with a view to discuss the cooperation in the area of research. As the result of the meeting, the sides agreed to sign the Protocol of Intent in order to start joint work on the development of a research centre in Latvia. Click here to read more.

Belgian “Malmar Sheet Metal” is building 4 million Lat worth production plant in Venstpils

The foundation of the new Malmar Sheet Metal plant was recently festively marked by embedding in concrete a capsule containing a message for the future. The company has been active in Ventspils for six years already but is planning to move to a new production plant next year.
The production plant and its infrastructure will be constructed in Ganibu street 107 in Ventspils and the estimated costs are 2 million Lat. Most valuable will be the high-tech powder coating workshop, specialized only for the engineering industry. Also new laser cutting, welding and other equipment will be installed. The total estimated costs for the project are 4,06 million Lat, of which 2,23 million will be co-financed by the European Union and the loan for the upfront payment will be provided by DnB Nord Bank. In June, 2011 construction works started and will be concluded in February, 2012. The construction works are carried out by SIA “Ostas Celtnieks”. The land plot for the new production plant is rented out by Ventspils Fee Port Authority. Click here to read more.

Tomorrow the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA), Ventspils City Council and Ventspils Free Port Authority will sign an agreement to implement a new method to attract foreign investors. To be able to attract foreign investments more actively, to plan and use available resources efficiently, LIAA has developed a method to attract foreign investments more targeted. The method is called the “POLARIS Process”. The aim of the agreement is to promote development of businesses within the administrative territory of the local government, by increasing (foreign) investments, by increasing the local government's national and international competitiveness and to expand the local government's cooperation with potential investment project developers. LIAA participates in creating official "Facebook" page for Latvia
RIGA, Aug 15 (LETA) - Currently, the idea of creating an official "Facebook" page for Latvia on the social networking service "Facebook" is being considered, as LETA was informed by the State Chancellery.
The plan is to create the page in English, using the name "Latvia", and the State Chancellery has addressed the Latvian Institute and the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) to cooperate so as to provide a wide range of information about Latvia and common international communication on the page. New possibilities for Latvian entrepreneurs in the United States

Last month Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis visited the United States accompanied by a business delegation. Mr Andris Ozols, director of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) headed the business delegation and stated that this visit played in important role for the further development of Latvian businesses. “The economy of the United States is the world's largest national economy and has numerous competitors for Latvian entrepreneurs. At the same time it is a promising market for Latvian entrepreneurs, especially in the fields of Information Technologies and Innovations because this large market creates completely different development possibilities than a market our own size. Evaluating the business meetings and the goal oriented attitude of the Latvian entrepreneurs, it clearly shows that this visit to the United States was only the beginning of what will lead to concrete results”. Latvian companies seek West Midlands firms for future partnerships at Subcon 2011
Manufacturers from the West Midlands are being targeted by a high profile delegation from Latvia this week in a bid to help foster even closer ties between the two countries. The rapidly emerging Baltic state will be on stands E4 and E45 at Subcon 2011 (7th-9th June) and is looking to attract local firms to meet with ten of its companies, including Dambis, Vikan Marketing, Nook Serviss, RD Alfa and Volburg. With input from the Manufacturing Advisory Service-West Midlands (MAS-WM), the link-up will explore mutual benefits of working together through supply chain development, collaborative R&D and, importantly, using Latvia as a potential gateway to the CIS block of countries. Imprimatur Capital Technology Venture Fund signs investment in Naco Technologies nano-coating business

Imprimatur Capital Technology Venture Fund and ZGI Nano have signed an investment in SIA “Naco Technologies” a young high-tech company based in Riga, Latvia, commercialising for a global market patented nano-coating technology developed at a leading research institute in Moscow, Russia. The Imprimatur Capital Technology Venture Fund, which originated the deal, has the European Investment Fund’s JEREMIE programme (co-financed by EU Structural Funds in Latvia) as its anchor investor, together with a number of pension funds and private individuals. Visit of Latvian construction companies to Gothenburg, Sweden

On April 28, 2011, the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) in cooperation with Mr Jonas Steen, CEO at construction company FOP in Sweden, will organize a one-day visit for Latvian entrepreneurs to Sweden. The goal of the visit is to gain information about-and to establish contacts in the construction sector. The day will start with a seminar about the construction sectors in both Latvia and Sweden, followed by brief company presentations and match-making session by Latvian and Swedish participants. Riga Technical University (RTU) Institute of Transport Vehicle Technologies, is working on a new concept for an unmanned micro aircraft

“Entrepreneurs from Latvia and abroad have already shown interest in our development of a micro-class multipurpose unmanned aircraft. The main goal of the project is to develop an unmanned aircraft that can monitor surroundings and buildings in order to increase the effectiveness of control and protection and to decrease the costs for that. We will patent our unmanned aircraft construction, the innovative composite materials we use and the development of the technologies. We are also planning to develop two European Union prototypes and one European Union trade mark,” says professor Aleksandrs Urbahs who received financial support from ERAF for the project “unmanned aircraft complex development and aircraft industrial prototype creation for Latvian economy development purposes.” Click here to read more.
3.8 million EUR for development of photonics in Latvia

On April 18th, the “FOTONIKA-LV” project was presented at the University of Latvia. This project was awarded the highest ranking possible – 15 out of 15 points – by the European Union seventh framework program competition "REGPOT-2011-1". In spite of the fierce competition, the project proved to be very successful because only 20 out of 291 projects received financial support from the European Union. Click here to read more.

From February 24 until February 25 the Northern Netherlands Provinces cooperation framework (Samenwerkingsverband Noord-Nederland, abbreviated to SNN) will visit Latvia. The delegation will be lead by Mr. Max van den Berg, SNN chairman and the Queens Commissioner to Groningen province. The visit is organized in cooperation with North Netherlands Trade Chamber and The Embassy of Kingdom of the Netherlands in Latvia. AGA to build new 8,3 million EUR production facility in Ropaži (Latvia)

Company “AGA SIA” is planning to build a new gas production and filling facility in Latvia in the next 1,5 years. The factory will be located at the industrial territory of Zakumuiža in Ropaži, which complies with all modern technologies. AGA will produce and bottle gas and gas mixtures for industrial and pharmaceutical use and for the food industry. Besides that AGA will also produce a range of custom made innovative products with high added value, like for example odorized oxygen, several helium mixtures, dry ice and environmental friendly protection gas for welding. LIAA unites scientists and entrepreneurs

The Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA) approved five new projects involving competence centers at which scientists and entrepreneurs will be working together on various projects that contribute to the Latvian economy and respective industries.
The projects are supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), which covers more than 60 percent of each project's costs, while entrepreneurs will provide the rest of the necessary funding. The programmes are to be completed by 2015.
In 2011 LIAA broadens its export support services

By attracting EU structural funds, The Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) is able to expand its export support services this year. In 2011 LIAA will organize Latvian businesses' participation in national stands at international trade fairs. Besides that LIAA plans to open new foreign representative offices in countries where there is a demand for Latvian goods and services.
Ventspils High Technology Park creates Cleanroom for high technology field

The ISO class 7 Cleanroom is located in Ventspils High Technology Park (VHTP) and it will be used by and offered to companies that operate in high technology fields, mainly in electronics and satellite technologies.
American company Cytec Industries Inc. has established and successfully operates multifunctional SSC in Riga

In spring 2010 Cytec Industries Inc. announced its intention to open a global Shared Services Center in Riga, Latvia in the second half of 2010. Today, the Center employs 68 people and the company intends to recruit approximately 125 people over a two year period.
Latvia climbs the positions in the Worlds Bank’s Doing Business report

Latvia improved business environment and regulations making the business processes easier for entrepreneurs thus increasing the positions in annual World Bank’s Doing Business report from 27th position last year to 24th position this year within a competition of 117 economies.
