Closer to the Japanese audience

We are pleased to announce that recently the Japanese version of Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) webpage has been launched. All you have to do now is to click on “JP” and browse through it!

The website was designed to provide Japanese companies and any other interested parties  with basic information about Latvia, its economy, business opportunities and investment climate in Japanese language. We have made efforts to ensure the web site suites Japanese readers respecting the cultural differences. Important to mention, that LIAA Japanese web site is the first web site provided by the Latvian government and public institutions specifically for  Japanese.

Since beginning of 2008 our agency has a permanent representative office in Tokyo. With its two main functions, namely export promotion from Latvia to Japan and attraction of FDI (foreign direct investments) from Japan LIAA promotes further business relationships between two countries. This year the volume of export inquiries received from Latvian companies increased significantly and the representative office is currently handling export promotion projects for Latvian companies working in such sectors as metalworking, textile, fashion, wooden toys, food, lumber, agricultural products and logistic services.

Upon the request of Latvian exporters, LIAA Representative office in Japan is developing individual visit programs, contacting Japanese companies as potential business partners and provides free business-matching services. As one of the success stories one can mention is the recent exhibition of knitwear studio Ameri (www.ameri.lv) that was held at the Embassy of Latvia in Tokyo on April 15-16, 2009. Four other Latvian companies specializing respectively in pharmaceutics, glassware, textile and language educational software are going to participate in the exhibitions in Tokyo during June-July 2009.

In August this year there are plans to organize the investment promotion seminar for prospective Japanese investors in Tokyo to provide them with the information and detailed sector reviews on industries in Latvia representing the highest investment potential .
