As the 2007-2013 EU planning period approaches, Latvia focuses on Innovation and high value-added projects

Between 2004 and 2006 LIAA received 1,202 applications for grants supporting the development of private enterprises registered in Latvia, and signed 705 contracts with successful applicants. In total this provided 46.5 million EUR worth of financial support to companies via the EU and the Latvian Government.

On June 26th, Eurostat (ec.europa.eu/eurostat) released the latest figures for tax burdens in Europe. According to the report, EU27 tax revenues in 2006 were at 39.9% of GDP. Meanwhile Latvia’s tax burden was among the lowest in the European Union with 30.1% of GDP.
