Via Baltica highway memorandum outlines the progressThe ministers of transport of the Baltic States and Poland have signed the Via Baltica highway memorandum which foresees the future development of the project. Latvia has already done a substantial workload by constructing the Saulkrasti city by-pass highway (in the north of Latvia). Meanwhile Poland has decided to work more actively and construct a by-pass highway around Augustow near the Lithuania-Poland border which will ease the traffic. Estonia on the other hand is ready to start working on the Parnu by-pass road. “The signing of the memorandum is a confirmation that the countries are ready to continue working on Via Baltica development. We realize that Via Baltica is the most important route from Finland through the Baltic States to Poland and the rest of Europe,” said Mr Ainars Slesers, the Minister of Transport of Latvia. “As the amount of trade and traffic intensity increases, this road network needs to be developed further.” Mr Ainars Slesers, the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Latvia, reveals the newly built Saulkrasti city by-pass highway, September 27th.
