JSC Sidrabe – we can help you to coat everything!

JSC Sidrabe (www.sidrabe.com) has over 45 years of experience in manufacturing vacuum deposition equipment and developing unique technological processes for production, pilot and R&D coaters.

Despite the global economic recession, JSC Sidrabe had a turnover of 4,504,304 lats (6,409,083 EUR) in 2008 and made a profit of 44,374 lats (63,100 EUR), according to the annual report published in the Enterprise Register of the Republic of Latvia database.

More than 265 different vacuum coating devices and more than 160 technological processes have been successfully implemented in JSC Sidrabe machines in many applications:

  • Coating web materials
  • Metal strip coating
  • Coating large-size architectural glass
  • Coating artificial diamonds and various powders
  • Protective and decorative coating for 3D articles
  • Production of free metal foils by vacuum deposition
  • Pre-treatment of various materials surfaces
  • Vacuum lamination
  • Vacuum drying of non-metal webs.

JSC Sidrabe has its own R&D department.  This means that it can carry out research for its customers in addition to extensive contract coating.

The key to JSC Sidrabe’s success is the well-established structure of the company and its commitment to the following principles:

  • An individual approach to each customer
  • A complete process investigation in the company's lab
  • Trial materials production
  • Flexible design ideology according to the customer's specification
  • Certification of the products in accordance with EU standards and directives
  • Anticipating future customer needs while designing the machines
  • Equipment acceptance testing at JSC Sidrabe facilities with the customer’s representatives
  • Equipment commissioning and technology transfer at the customer’s facilities
  • Personnel training and certification
  • After-sales customer support during the guarantee period
  • Continued customer support and consultation after the guarantee period (according to an additional agreement)

Realisation of scientific concepts

In recent years JSC Sidrabe has regularly carried out joint R&D programmes with international customers who wish to utilise the expertise and the well-equipped laboratories it has to offer.

With its R&D personnel and facilities, JSC Sidrabe can develop deposition processes, manufacture samples of future products, prototype new assemblies and thus create new coaters or units. All this is done together with the customer to ensure that the design, reliability and operability of future coaters are of the highest possible standard.

The R&D department has special ‘JSC Sidrabe-made’ vacuum coaters of different sizes and applications. The coaters are equipped with a variety of evaporation and sputtering systems, such as single and double, planar and cylindrical rotary magnetrons, electron beam, electric arc and resistive evaporators.

JSC Sidrabe remains at the forefront of the industry by continually upgrading its equipment, implementing new methods of coating and material research and purchasing new R&D equipment. In addition, JSC Sidrabe places a high value on its human resources. The company’s scientists, engineers and laboratory technicians are an invaluable asset and the driving force behind the creative process.

In 2007 the World Intellectual Property organization (WIPO) awarded JSC Sidrabe gold medals for its contribution in the development of high technologies. “The development of Latvian intellectual capital should be a strategic priority, because without it Latvian enterprises and the national economy overall will suffer great losses in a bitter struggle of competency. Neglecting science, and a decline in the fields of exact (hard) sciences, have already done severe damage to Latvian industry,” says Nils Veidemanis, president of JSC Sidrabe. This statement comes as no surprise given that JSC Sidrabe is known world-wide as a producer of vacuum deposition technologies and equipment. The technologies, equipment and equipment components produced by the company have been installed in many production plants, which produce, for example, flat displays, batteries, architectural and solar glass. Almost all the company’s production is exported; with the main export markets being in Europe, the USA and Asia.

During recent years JSC Sidrabe has participated in more than 10 international exhibitions (in countries such as the USA, India, China, Japan, Canada, Germany, Sweden and the United Kingdom).  These exhibitions have focused on vacuum coating technologies, renewable energy and photovoltaic power. JSC Sidrabe’s participation in the International Photovoltaic Power Generation Expo in Japan at the beginning of 2008 was co-financed by Latvia’s Investment and Development Agency (LIAA).

Mr N Veidemanis says, “Participation in international exhibitions has helped our company to develop cooperation with companies of international renown. JSC Sidrabe, with its unique technologies and equipment, can compete in the global market of vacuum coating technologies. Some of our clients are 3M (USA), Stork Screens (Netherlands), VacuMetal (Netherlands), Scheldahl (USA), Sigma Technology (USA), Wintek (Taiwan), Sanyo (Japan), Toyota (Japan) and Helianthos (the Netherlands).”

JSC Sidrabe to cooperate with Corus

JSC Sidrabe has signed an agreement for 1.4m euro with Corus, the second largest steel producer in Europe. JSC Sidrabe and Corus will cooperate and work together on the research and development of vacuum technologies for a one-year period, according to Andrejs Balabkins, Marketing Manager of JSC Sidrabe.

He said that JSC Sidrabe, working in conjunction with the Latvian Institute of Physics, will develop a patent for a unique vacuum technology for metal coating that will help to reduce energy consumption during the production process.

The project will result in the development of a new technology pilot device that will enable Corus to produce new improved metal product solutions for the European and world markets, said a representative of JSC Sidrabe.

JSC Sidrabe President Nils Veidemanis said in a statement to the press that “the growing cooperation with international vacuum coating and equipment giants confirmed the potential that JSC Sidrabe has”.

JSC Sidrabe to receive 5.1m euro from SEB bank

SEB bank allocated 5.1m euro to JSC Sidrabe at the beginning of the year for the production of vacuum equipment for a thin film solar module. Using funds from SEB Bank, JSC Sidrabe has already completed innovative projects in the field of photovoltaic power, such as the ultra-modern facility Groglass Ltd, which operates the first state-of-the-art glass coating technology in Latvia.

Ms Sarlote Hegberga, the senior vice-president of SEB Bank, explains that “in the era of more prudent politics regarding the credit issue, the bank’s priority is innovative enterprises and products with high export capacity. JSC Sidrabe is a very good example to other companies as it shows that by the realisation of innovative ideas it is still possible to develop and act internationally,” says Ms Hegberga.

The current global economic situation is the ideal moment for companies to realise innovative ideas and strengthen competency not only in Latvia but also abroad.

Nils Veidemanis, president of JSC Sidrabe, says, “This is a very good time for our company to take advantage of the global economic situation and use our experience and the cooperation we have already developed to increase turnover and develop serial production, considering the sufficient capacity and resources of the company”.
