Vācijas–Latvijas ostu dienās demonstrē Latvijas inovācijas ar LIAA atbalstu

On April 15, during the German-Latvian Port Days in Hamburg, a Maritime Digital Innovation Demo Day was held, featuring solutions jointly developed by Latvian and German partners to enhance port efficiency, safety, and sustainability. The event vividly demonstrated Latvia’s technology export capabilities and international cooperation, in which the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) plays a significant role.

The innovations demonstrated were developed under a memorandum of cooperation that brings together Latvian and German ports, companies, and research partners with the goal of developing digital and autonomous solutions for the future of ports. In this process, LIAA acts as a platform that connects Latvian companies with international markets and helps turn innovations into real export projects.

“Such projects demonstrate how innovations created in Latvia are transformed into export-ready solutions. Our task is to connect local technological expertise with international demand and help companies grow globally,” emphasizes Ieva Jāgere, Director of LIAA.

Several practical solutions were presented during the demo day. LVR Flote, in collaboration with partners in Hamburg, is developing hydrographic data exchange and automation solutions, as well as the Hybrid Fleet Insight platform for managing hybrid vessels, which helps improve operational efficiency and reduce resource consumption.

Meanwhile, LMT demonstrated private 5G network and computer vision technologies that enable ports to analyze real-time data, optimize processes, and achieve sustainability goals. These solutions already show potential for export to other European and global ports.

The range of innovations was further complemented by drone technologies for infrastructure monitoring—from underwater drones to autonomous solutions for inspecting complex structures. The development of such technologies is essential for port safety and efficiency, especially as the importance of data in infrastructure management grows.

The memorandum of cooperation, signed in 2025, marks a long-term partnership between Latvia and Germany in the development of maritime technologies. Within this framework, key industry challenges have been identified and working groups established to develop concrete solutions. The Demo Day in Hamburg serves as a presentation of interim results, confirming that the cooperation is translating into practical and market-ready solutions.

The presence of Latvian companies at an event of this scale strengthens the country’s position as a center for innovation and technology development in the Baltic Sea region. The LIAA continues to work actively to promote high-value-added exports, attract investment, and develop international partnerships that generate real economic impact.
