The Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) is organizing a trade mission for Latvian businesses to Sweden on May 11, 2026, led by Minister of Economics Viktors Valainis. Representatives from 76 Latvian companies have confirmed their participation in the visit, demonstrating strong interest in expanding cooperation in one of Latvia’s most important export and investment markets.

The central event of the trade mission will be the Latvia–Sweden Business Forum in Stockholm, which will be attended by representatives of the governments, business communities, and investment sectors of both countries. On the Swedish side, Sweden’s Minister for Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa and the head of Business Sweden, the Swedish international trade promotion organization, Jan Larsson , underscoring the event’s high significance and political and economic weight.

The visit will also include high-level meetings with Swedish officials and business leaders, as well as discussions on cooperation opportunities in the green transition, construction, engineering, the defense industry, and other sectors. The program includes individual B2B meetings for business representatives, sector-specific sessions, and meetings with potential investors.

Minister of Economics Viktors Valainis:

“Latvia’s economic growth is closely linked to our ability to be active in international markets. Strong partnerships with countries such as Sweden mean not only new business opportunities but also greater economic security and resilience. Today, as geopolitical challenges grow, cooperation with reliable partners is becoming a strategic necessity—it is an opportunity to strengthen both our companies and the country’s competitiveness in the long term.”

Sweden is one of Latvia’s most important foreign trade partners—in 2025, it ranked 5th in terms of total trade turnover, which reached 2.6 billion euros. Latvia’s exports to Sweden amounted to 1.62 billion euros, ensuring a positive trade balance. At the same time, Sweden is the largest investor in Latvia, with 7.7 billion euros in accumulated direct investment.

Ieva Jāgere, Director of the LIAA:

“Economic cooperation between Latvia and Sweden is already very close, but the potential for its further development is significant. We are seeing rapid growth in service exports, as well as good opportunities in the technology and industrial sectors. The business forum and individual meetings between entrepreneurs will allow Latvian companies to establish direct contacts with partners and launch new cooperation projects.”

Latvian companies from various sectors will participate in the trade mission, including information and communication technologies, the defense industry, construction, metalworking, food production, and others. Among the participants are such companies significant to the Latvian economy as AS “HansaMatrix,” SIA “Latvijas Mobilais Telefons,” AS “UPB,” SIA “PRIMEKSS,” SIA “CMB Housing Factory,” AS “Jelgavas mašīnbūves rūpnīca,” as well as food producers SIA “Lāči,” SIA “Very Berry,” and ZS “Ķelmēni.”

The goal of the trade mission is to promote the export capacity of Latvian companies, strengthen cooperation with Swedish partners, and attract new investments to the Latvian economy.

Participation in the trade mission abroad is organized by the LIAA as part of the European Union-co-financed Innovative Entrepreneurship Development Program for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs), with support from the European Regional Development Fund and state funding. Companies can participate either by paying a fee or by receiving support for eligible costs.
